Exit Tickets – Checking for Student Understanding

Blog by Miss Morton, Instructional Coach:

This year at Freedom Hill, all classrooms are utilizing Exit Tickets to check for student understanding.  After the teacher presents a focus lesson, the students answer a few questions or solve problems regarding the new content.  This brief check-in gives the teacher a snapshot of student understanding to plan for small group remediation or extension, as well as on-going whole group instruction. Exit tickets are a wonderful way for students to model their math and show off the strategies they have mastered!  In this example, a primary student demonstrates using an open number line to solve addition and subtraction equations.
