4th Grade: Magnetism & Electricity

Blog by Mrs. Pourhashemi, 4th grade Special Education teacher, and Mrs. Forte, 4th grade teacher:

Each year students in the 4th grade complete a unit of study involving Magnetism & Electricity.  In doing so, students learn about the various scientists involved in the discovery of electricity, in addition to the conductors and insulators of electricity.  In one of our hands-on experiments, students investigated how to create and discharge static electricity, as well as examine the types of objects that might be attracted to static electricity.  It was in the creation of the static electricity that these photos were taken.  The students enjoyed creating the static and being able to see it visually represented with their hair and a balloon.  Students also discovered that static electricity attracts tissue paper, aluminum foil, and pepper.  It was a great day for learning in Mrs. Forte and Mrs. Pourhashemi’s class!
