A Message from FCPS: SOL Tests (Grades 3 – 6)

Students in Fairfax County Public Schools are currently taking Standards of Learning (SOL) tests. Thank you to all our families, students, and staff who are dedicated to making sure that each student has the opportunity to do his or her best on these assessments.  Following testing, SOL score reports will be available according to the schedule below.

  • Students eligible for expedited retakes:  A scaled score of 400 is a passing score on a SOL test.  For the first time this year, students in grades 3 through 8 who are passing the class associated with the test but who fail the test by a narrow margin, receiving a score between 375 and 399, will be eligible to retake the test.  If your child is eligible for an expedited retake, you will be notified.  Parental permission is required and must be documented before the retake is administered. (Expedited retakes have been available to students taking high school end-of-course tests since 2000. Parental permission is not required for retakes of high school end-of-course tests.)
  • Preliminary SOL reports:  During the last week of school you will receive a preliminary report of your child’s SOL scores. The preliminary SOL report for parents will contain the results of the spring 2015 writing test (grade 8 only) and non-writing test results available as of June 10, 2015.  The report will include the levels, names, scaled scores, and proficiency levels of assessments taken this spring.  Virginia Grade Level Alternative (VGLA), Virginia Alternate Assessment Program (VAAP), Virginia Secondary Evaluation Program (VSEP) and SOL tests taken after June 5, 2015 may not be included in this report.
  • Official SOL score reports:  An official SOL score report including all test results will be mailed to you at the end of the summer.
