STEM Lab: Windmills!

From Mr. Misch, AART & STEM Lab Coordinator:

During the second grading period, both the fourth and sixth grades have had weather as a science topic. To complement this unit of study, the students constructed windmills in STEM lab. The students designed their windmills to lift a weight as quickly as possible. Teams were able to choose the size, shape, and number of blades for their windmills. Through the process of designing and building the windmills, the students have learned that blade angle is a critical component of a functioning windmill. So far the leading windmill lifted the weight 60 cm in just over thirteen seconds!
