9th Annual Special Education Conference:  Parents + Educators + Students = Success

The Department of Special Services, Department of Communications and Community Outreach, and the Advisory Committee for Students with Disabilities are co-sponsoring a conference for parents and educators of students who receive special education services.  The 9th  Annual Special Education Conference: Parents + Educators + Students = Success will take place on Saturday,  March 1, 2014, at Woodson High School from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with Ellen Galinsky as the keynote presenter.

Ellen Galinsky, President of Families and Work Institute, has moved beyond the achievement and opportunity gap to identify a gap in children’s engagement in learning. Among her findings, chronicled in her book, Mind in the Making, is the importance of promoting life skills, all based on Executive Functions of the brain.  Mind in the Making (MITM) is now a national initiative to share scientifically based research and applicable strategies for promoting life skills in communities across the country.  Ellen’s keynote presentation will focus on the seven essential life skills every child needs.

Parents and educators can learn about the latest research, strategies, special education services and community resources for students with disabilities.

Conference announcements will be sent to all families with a child receiving special education services in FCPS.
