In the STEM Lab with Mrs. Nowak’s Class

Blog by Mr. Misch, AART & STEM Lab Coordinator:

Before designing their own parachutes, students from Mrs. Nowak’s sixth grade class experimented with parachutes in STEM Lab. The independent variables in the experiments were canopy size, canopy material, and suspension chord length. We wonder which hypthoseses will be supported by the data. When dropped from a height of six feet, will larger canopies create more drag? Will plastic create more drag that cotton fabric? Will our 18 inch suspension cord lines create more drag than our 12 inch or 6 inch lines? Go parachutes!
