Early Bird Registration Ending January 12, 2015!

We invite you to join educators from across the Commonwealth of Virginia at the K-5 annual statewide staff development initiative.

What: Virginia Children’s Engineering Convention
When: February 19-20, 2015
Where: Williamsburg, Virginia

Participants will experience STEM-based instructional practices and workshops that will focus on enabling children to:

  • Explore how people create, use and control technology.
  • Apply knowledge in mathematics, science, English, and history and social sciences in solving problems associated with design, engineering and technology.
  • Use tools and materials to develop technological literacy and self-confidence.

Participants may receive 10 to 15 re-certification points for full participation in the convention, when they have prior approval from their school administration.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Dr. Ioannis (Yannis) Miaoulis
President and director of the Museum of Science, Boston since 2003. Originally from Greece, Dr. Miaoulis came to the Museum after a distinguished association with Tufts University. There, he was dean of the School of Engineering, associate provost, interim dean of the University’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and professor of mechanical engineering. An innovative educator with a passion for science and engineering, Miaoulis championed the introduction of engineering into the Massachusetts science and technology public school curriculum in 2001, making the Commonwealth first in the nation to develop a K – 12 statewide curriculum framework and assessments for technology/engineering.

In 2014 nearly 600 teachers, principals, and staff took advantage of this excellent professional development opportunity!
