Fairfax Education Association: Focused on Reading Initiative

Erika Davis, FHES Counselor, will serve as our coordinator:

2015 Focused on Reading Flyer

The Fairfax Education Association is again partnering with the Lions Clubs of Northern Virginia in a project called Focused on Reading.  We know from the past years that our combined efforts will generate positive results in the FCPS community.  We are working together to strengthen students’ love of reading and increase their understanding of service to the community.  We believe that if we make this connection for our students it will lead to success in reading and promote a desire to participate in future community outreach by our youth.

What is the Focused on Reading project?  We are asking schools to collect used eyeglasses in their buildings as we celebrate NEA’s Read Across America or Dr. Seuss’ Birthday on March 2nd.  Eyeglasses can be collected between March 2 and March 18.  Boxes will be collected from schools beginning on March 18.

All of the collected glasses will be sent to the eyeglass recycling center in Falls Church and prepared to be donated to eye care clinics in Fairfax County and across the world.  Our goal is to increase the vision of those worldwide and thereby helping students become better readers through better sight.

We hope that you are willing to promote this effort in your community, and we look forward to including your school in this exciting project.

Sincerely,

Kimberly Adams
