Highlights Include Barnes & Noble’s Summer Reading Triathlon,
First-ever Teen Book Festival, B-Fest and The Okee Dokee Brothers!

What:             Summer Reading Triathlon Opening Ceremony

When:             Saturday, June 4, 11 a.m.

Details:           Barnes & Noble is celebrating 20 Years of Summer Reading with a special Summer Reading Triathlon, kicking off June 4 with an exciting Opening Ceremony! Young readers can vote for their favorite heroes and places from a selection of contenders curated by booksellers and enjoy other fun activities. Voting runs through August 21, with local and national medalists announced at a special Closing Ceremony August 27.

Through the Summer Reading program, kids in grades 1 through 6 can earn a free book by reading three books and answering questions in their Summer Reading Journal by September 6.

What:             B-Fest Teen Book Festival

When:             Friday, June 10 – Sunday, June 12

Details:           Join us at Barnes & Noble stores nationwide for B-Fest, our first-ever teen book festival, featuring author events, writing workshops, panel discussion at 12pm on Saturday with popular local YA authors Kate Hattemer, Jessica Spotswood and Lisa Maxwell moderated by Lenore Appelhans.  Other guests include author Jan Gangsei and local blogger and guest host Andye Eppes from Reading Teen.  Other events include trivia & games, exclusives, giveaways and much more! What:             Musical Performance, Storytime and Book Signing with the Grammy Award Winning Okee Dokee Brothers

When:             Saturday, June 18th at 10:30am

Details:           Join us at Barnes & Noble Tysons for a special morning of songs and stories!  Joe Mailander and Justin Lansing (The Okee Dokee Brothers) celebrate the beauty of nature and the joys of being outdoors with their family-friendly music and new children’s book Can You Canoe and Other Adventure Songs.  Aiming to inspire parents and kids to get outside and get creative, the book journeys cross-country in 12 songs, from the rolling hills of Appalachia in the East to the canyons and campfires of the West!

Details:           In celebration of life’s many milestones, join us for a reading of the Dr. Seuss classic Oh, the Places You’ll Go! Activities to follow.

When:             Saturday, June 18, at 11 a.m. (this time is subject to change due to the event with The Okee Dokee Brothers)

Details:           To honor dads, grandpas and caregivers celebrating Father’s Day, we will read two charming books Dad School and Grandpa Loves You! Activities to follow.

What:  Extremely Cute Animals Operating Heavy Machinery Storytime

When:             Saturday, June 25, at 11 a.m.

Details:           Just because you’re extremely cute, doesn’t mean you can’t operate a bulldozer! From author-illustrator David Gordon comes a funny, whimsical take on believing in yourself and telling bullies who’s boss! Join us for a fun-filled Storytime!
